Description: This is probably the best black powder that can be homemaded. It was
done through a little change, usual powder is maded with charcoal
wich is partially combusted carbon, so in this experiment, it is
done with completly ox...
If you do a little testing you will find that elemental carbon makes slower powder than good reactive charcoal. The residual volitiles and minerals etc that are left from the wood actually make for a faster burn. Try it, and you will see. Balsa, willow, red alder, big leaf maple and many other charcoals are superior to elemental carbon for black powder. Don't take my word for it though. Experimenting is what it is all about.
This was done by mixing powdered XXXXX sugar and not granulated, i dissolved 5gr of sugar in 20cc of 98% sulphuric acid. The resulting carbon had to be washed with a lot of a solution of 5% sodium bicarbonate. Afterwards it was crushed and washed again. Anyway, this black powder NEEDS 0.5% of urea or remmanents of sulphuric acid inside the carbon may set it off.
